MCG BAY13 4 LIEF - Dec 29th
I have no idea what I did from boxing day to the Monday but never mind I guess, I’m allowed to waste time occasionally. Lots of music listening (new Los Campesinos!, Adam Lambert and Yeasayer) and some TV watching (Bear Grylls, Heston BloominTerribleAtReadingHisScript, Curb etc) and some phone calls. Yesterday I made up for it though, with a day at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the boxing day...
“This is Graham from England, he’s Lucy’s friend...
Ok, going to try something a bit different this week and keep this more like a diary with day by day observations of my first non England family Christmas. Whilst it is nice to try and write in prose and give the reader a literaturical adventure, this will just be a chronological list I think. Here we go then…
Tuesday 22nd
Wrote that epic previous blog in the morning and in the afternoon mostly...
Mariah, God, Kasabian, Vampires & Me (Dec 22nd...
So it’s three days until Christmas apparently, with 38 degrees forecast for tomorrow. But I’m giving this Christmas thing ago; there is a tree up in the flat (more of that later), I’ve been listening to Sufjan and will watch Home Alone tomorrow. A few days ago I went with Lucy to a dinner party where her and her friends did a(?) Kris Kringle, something I’d only ever seen on the American version of...
Back to Base-ics (Dec 22nd Update; Part 1)
Ello, making up for lost time today so you’re getting two blogs with 1500 words worth of drivel. This first one is about the 7 days and 7 nights I spent at Base hostel in St Kilda, to give Lucy a break from me for a bit! My first night was in the staff bedroom which was a bombsite, not much fun; and my second day was spent walking to the city and back (5 hours non stop walking, at least 15km,...
Avatar
So I saw Avatar on premier day at what was basically a private screening; god bless art house cinemas and their hollywood avoiding clientelle. I bought a glass of red that cost the same as a 4 litre box of the cheap crap I (and everyone) normally drinks before/on a night out. The film was good anyhow, although I didn’t see it in the next level 3D.
St Kilda II
Still here in Melbourne, will be for a while. In a hostel for a week which is going good. I won’t go into details because one I am getting lazy at this blog and two, it is a PG rated blog and thus don’t write everything, you’ve known this all along though.
To clarify; this blog is essentially a record of events that is purely for my own benefit. This is why I put names and...
St Kilda
I’m in Melbourne and after an ace few days and nights staying with Lucy (including dancing till 4am in empty clubs, watching 9 songs and many other terrible movies, and heckling bikini models), it’s time to get back into hostel mood for a week. I can’t be bothered.
Internet is scarce at the moment so updates will also be. I am so hungover it hurts. Out.
3rd - 8th December
So today is going pretty terribly. I chose to take a taxi to the airport calculating using their website that it’d cost 20 bucks but it ended up costing 32. Which annoyed me. Whilst I was riding the short journey to the airport at 1PM for my 3:15PM flight, I got a text message from the airliner saying the flight was delayed until 10:15pm. Which annoyed me even more. Luckily by the time I got to...
Thai'm to start thinking about a family?
This is a bit overdue now but I meant to write about it back in mid November.
There are a lot of dirty old bald white men in Thailand who are just there for you know what. I actually laugh or at least give them a disgusting look when I see them walking the streets alone, either en route to the ‘shop’ or doing the walk of shame from some grotty gue(st) hou(se) [the Thai’s can’t say their s’s)....
CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
The Zoo yesterday was cool but a lot of it was closed due to building work (hence the blog title) and a lot of the animals were hiding. But the views were absolutely incredible, see below…
I’m getting alright at this photo thing eh. More to come…
Wild Horses
It’s hard to find normality when you don’t have a home or a constant social group, its 37 degrees and you’re in an unfamiliar place. There’s no routine, I never really have to be aware of what time it is or what day or date it is. It’s possible I’ll forget my own birthday next year.
Nevertheless there are some things I do to try and feel a bit more grounded, making my bed each morning for example...
December 1st
Alright? First things first, I am going to be putting up some more journalistic style pieces about things I’ve noticed in the first 40 days. One of them is a rant, be warned. The first is called Monkey Business and it’s the post below this one. Lots of people want more blog so you are going to get it, just in a different format.
There is a reason I haven’t been blogging much in Aus and that’s...

Monkey Business
When I was a kid, I used to love going to the Zoo and in particular I really liked seeing the monkeys swinging about, they were always the most fun animals to watch.
So, where am I going with this you ask?
I realised a few weeks ago that I have already graduated up a step in appreciation of things in regard to what is something extra-ordinary to see and what is simply now something that I am...
